A heavier base pad makes the magazine drop cleanly on release without requiring perfect spring tension, and the right geometry closes the magwell funnel at the bottom of the grip when a magwell is fitted. On the TP9 in IPSC Production -- where reload speed is a direct competition variable and every stage has at least one -- these are meaningful gains. The TP9 uses a Canik-specific double-stack 9mm magazine, and base pads for it are TP9-specific.
